Warehouse process:
In
terms of warehousing and supply chain there are various processes need to be
carried out for supplying particular material for which customer has raised
demand from manufacturer to its end consumer.
so what are that processes and what type of
resources are necessary to perform that process we will know today.
Today
we will know about warehouse picking process , what are different types of
picking process and for all types of picking processes we have in depth posts
so if you want to know in depth about all that picking processes then
jump here.
So
lets start,
What is
picking :
Picking
can be considered as production in warehouse because it’s the first process
where material for which customer raised demend is actually physically taken
from location and from here the next activities carried out .
Types of
picking:
1.
Batch
picking
2.
Cluster
picking
3. Store picking
Picking
is done from a particular location and for a particular sku ( stock keeping
unit ) which is nothing but a unique identity for respective material and it
may be a number or code .
The
way in which picking executes its like take material from its assigned
location, picker goes to particular location which is assigned to required article
and picks that material from location
Batch
picking:
Batch
pick is done for multiple stores at same time , when number of stores demands
for common materials then batch pick is very effective way of picking in which
all required material for number of stores is picked at one time and after that
it is sorted according to their respective stores (customerwise)
In
batch pick picker need to visit location of particular sku only one single time
to fulfill orders of multiple stores ( customers),batch pick saves time and
resources when it comes to pick some common sku material demand from several
different stores.
There
is no need to pick material for each store separately as it may take more time
compare to batch pick.
When
multiple number of stores wants some common material then all that picking
orders are grouped in a batch and every batch have its unique id or code for
identification and maintaining accurate data and record in wms
(warehouse management system) to analyze in future when its needed.
Once
the batch is formed after that picking can be start for that particular store
orders after batch activation
How to achieve efficiency :
To
minimize the picking time and increase productivity two pickers can do picking
simultaneously at same zone in reverse and forward way in which one picker
starts picking from start location of zone and another starts from end location
of same zone.
